The History
The area, inhabited in pre-historic times, became one of the assets of the Abbey (Abazia) of San Colombano di Bobbio, founded by St. Colomban in 614. After the fall of the Longobards (Lombards), defeated by Charlemagne, the Holy Roman Empire built the Imperial Feudal Estates within the territory defined by the Marca Obertenghi, so as to maintain a safe passage to the sea. Menconico, together with a few adjoining lands, was assigned to the Malaspina family.
