The History
Covering the territory of the four provinces of Genoa, Alessandria, Piacenza and Milan, on the foot of the Apennine mountain range, Valverde has always been an important crossing point in the dynamic trade with the eastern part of the Mediterranean. It developed into a crucial junction on the trade routes connecting the Valley of the Po and the Ligurian Sea. Its extraordinary historic and environmental heritage is well worth discovering. The major asset of the municipality of Valverde is its Park that offers, with its remarkable system of paths, an impressive variety of settings and landscapes and a vast range of regional flora and fauna. The area is famous for its chestnuts and mushrooms that visitors like to pick in autumn. Numerous paths connect Valverde and the nearby villages and towns. The timing and the difficulty of the individual paths is varied and everyone can choose their own to tread, according to their possibilities and likings. Being in the relative vicinity of the Via del Sale (Route of the Salt) and the Via Francigena, from there one can easily visit the old pathways that once connected this little town to important economic and cultural centres. Currently, the Municipality of Valverde, in collaboration with C.A.I. (Italian Alpine Club) is further developing the system of paths within the Park, adding new itineraries, to be posted on the website shortly. Places of interest • Castle • Church of Our Lady of Snow /Chiesa della Madonna della Neve

I Longobardi e l'Oltrepo
