The first historical mentions of a village named "Caneto" date back to the twelfth century, although its territory is part of a hilly area already populated in prehistoric times by remote tribes of Ligurian race. It 'an act of sale of February 9, 1198 in which Rolando Agarasca of Figara (now Castana) assigns Ardengo of "Caneto" two pieces of land in Figara. This is the oldest manuscript, until now found, in which is mentioned the name of Canneto. And 'course so that a village on behalf "Caneto" existed in the second half of the twelfth century.
