The History
The area, inhabited in pre-historic times, became an asset of the Abbey (Abazia) of San Colombano di Bobbio, founded by St. Colomban in 614. It later became the estate of the Bishop of Romagnese who maintained the dominion over it.
After the fall of the Longobards, defeated by Charlemagne, the Holy Roman Empire built the Imperial Feudal Estates within the territory defined by the Marca Obertenghi, so as to maintain a safe passage to the sea. Romagnese, along with several adjoining lands, was assigned to the Malaspina family. Upon the arrival of the Viscontis, the Dal Verme family became its landlords.
