The archaeological finds made in 1892 near the Melegnana farmhouse and in Dosso di Francia and in 1903 in the Mortizza locality have brought to light numerous burial grounds with the relative funeral objects from the Gallo-Roman period, confirming that the eastern area of the municipal territory was crossed from an ancient Roman road that led from Sempione to Genoa.
