The History
The toponym contains the name of a saint worshiped in many Christian lands, especially in Greece. One hypothesis is that the cult was spread during the Gothic wars or the Byzantine domination in the 6th century. Otherwise, it might have been spread by the travelling merchants, perhaps the Greeks. However, although we have no certainty about the name’s origin, we find signs of the Lombard invasion of the peninsula in 558. Places of interest • Roman Furnace (at Massinigo)
